Why Tyler The Creator went from Suits to Shorts and a T-Shirt.
His new tour has one stark difference from his last, the way he dressed.
He still wears dress shoes so I must give him credit. I could never.
In 2019, I stood on soft grass to see TYLER, THE CREATOR perform his newest album IGOR. Yes, of course, I was there for the music, especially to see his “then-boyfriend” Jaden Smith open as well. BUT I knew if there was one thing I was really there to see it was the SUIT, the iconic IGOR suit.
Straight from the opening scene of a film, this beautiful creature in a full suit with his delightful bowl cut blond wig presents himself to a crowd of young angsty teenagers, at that time his crowd was much different than modern-day I would say. Over the next two hours he busted a move like no one I’d ever seen, not even to mention he did it all in his BRIGHT blue suit or maybe it was slime green, it was definitely one vibrant colour tho.
Fast forward three long long years…
The Call me If you get Lost tour rolls around to my hometown so obviously I buy tickets 5 minutes before the show and sneak into the pit(GA). This time around Kali Uchis busts out on a pole to show the intricate sets that were to come with Tyler. Then I heard DJ Drama’s voice and we all knew it was time to get Lost.
Before we get into the production design we must look at the fit, yes we took this photo and yes we got hella close, s/o my tall brother. First off he clearly switched out his suit for a much more comfortable and less hot fit, although he still looks sexy as ever. Speaking of comfort I really don’t know how he can last so long in those loafers, I have a three hour maximum in them, dancing not included. Starting from the top he’s rocking his signature hat in this blue color way, the color really pops just like his eyes. Next he rocks a blank tee with his Golf Le Fluer digital leopard print button down. Also, he’s wearing a lil pearl like necklace of course, i saw so many pearl necklaces in the crowd, it was wild. To cover his crouch he wears some beige shorts and finishes the fit with high white socks inside of some black loafers. This fit is so simple yet shows how he has started to dress up in his own way. It’s dressy yet casual at the same time.
Now for the WHY?
Why did he switch up his loud color-blasting suit for an Italian grandfather? Maturation comes to mind, it’s clear if you look to his luxury label GOLF Le FLEUR*, who will soon be collaborating with Gucci. From the sneak peeks we have from a fast company video touring his store installment we can see he has upped his designs
and prices. Clearly, he is taking a new direction, one of everyday wear for the elevated Tyler fan. If Odd Future is for the rookie, GOLF le FLEUR is for the seasoned veteran. Tyler wants these clothes to be worn, it’s the type of piece you Buy one of and make it a staple of your closet. For example, one of the first releases is his French Waltz fragrance. This is the type of item for repeated use, it’s like the white tee under your vest, you know it’s there but you can smell it, lol go analogies! As the video shows the clothing is coming very very soon. If you would like an early look, Tyler invited some fans out and Takyoklls of Youtube posted a video, it’s definitely worth a watch!
If you like this, he has a ton of videos discussing GOLF le FLEUR*!
now the freakin sets at the concert, i had to mention it, oh my gosh, first he hopped out of a CAR GET MODEL NAME, then hopped onto a BOAT that floated down the stadium, sang in some tall GRASS, then rapped in a HOUSE. Everything felt so real yet had an imaginative twist right out of a pee wee herman production. In all, the call me if you get lost tour showed tylers progression in so many sectors. Personally, i’m most excited to see where he takes his golf le fleur line and if he is appointed as virgil abloh’s successor as creative director of menswear at the big ol louis vuitton, in the meantime check out these lovely videos I recorded at https://www.tiktok.com/@jgthevictorianhippie
