My Skirt Journey as a "Man"
Yes, The Men Are Wearing Them.
Brad Pitt, A$AP Rocky, Harry Styles, the usual suspects of the what I like to call the Skirtesurection but will this spread to the everyday man. Probabaly not, but it will spread to the fashion-minded folk of today’s age. More specifically Gen Z will be rocking skirts just as millennials rock jeans at the office. Personally, I started rocking skirts around two years ago when I saw Mr. Styles wearing them in magazines.
This is my earliest memory and documented photo of myself wearing a skirt. I started this so-called experimentation in college as I was figuring out many things from my sexuality to when that project was due. Wearing this gave me the confidence to truly explore my own skirtesurection. From then it was game on, here’s the progression of my skirt fits from 2020-2022:
Once I got comfortable enough I realized I didn’t need to take pictures every time a skirt occurred in early 2022. Around this time I had about 5 or 6 skirts I would wear maybe once or twice a month. I still have yet to fully integrate the skirt in to my fashion rotation. And my family still has a gender stigma of who should wear a skirt that’s easier to alblidge too then to argue about.
My favourite skirt I own is by far my Proenza Schouler elongated knit skirt.
I was lucky enough to acquire this on a trip to Soho last year. It has a liner in it for when the chiller months occur.
If there’s one thing I know the Skirtesurection is alive and well. And no one can stop it, not even my parents.
